Sunday morning snow

Pictures: Snow falling from the trees; there's still a lot on the trees though; the heated bird bath.

Yesterday the snow was so beautiful in the trees. The sun reflected off the white "cotton candy" like covering turning it yellow. I was home all morning and then went to play Carcassonne with the Kings and the Mieruas. It's fun.

I just realized that it's 1/10. It's been 3 months since David died. Sometimes when I'm going to sleep moments start going through my head again and again. These are not always the happiest memories...they are my memories of doubt and fear. Fortunately most of my days and nights are filled with great memories and vibes. I guess it's all part of the process.....working through the love and grief. Miss you Dave, but we're okay.

peace, love and groove

  1. 3 months in the blink of an eye, it seems. It brings to mind this poem by Emily Dickinson, which I have always loved and am sure you know:

    Because I could not stop for Death,
    He kindly stopped for me;
    The carriage held but just ourselves
    And Immortality.

    We slowly drove, he knew no haste,
    And I had put away
    My labor, and my leisure too,
    For his civility.

    We passed the school, where children strove
    At recess, in the ring;
    We passed the fields of gazing grain,
    We passed the setting sun.

    Or rather, he passed us;
    The dews grew quivering and chill,
    For only gossamer my gown,
    My tippet only tulle.

    We paused before a house that seemed
    A swelling of the ground;
    The roof was scarcely visible,
    The cornice but a mound.

    Since then 'tis centuries, and yet each
    Feels shorter than the day
    I first surmised the horses' heads
    Were toward eternity.

  2. Words written by man are have their place, and lead to quiet consideration, but also seek measure in these words:

    "How lovely is your dwelling place,
    O Lord Almighty!
    My soul yearns, even faints
    for the courts of the Lord;
    my heart and my flesh cry out
    for the Living God.

    Even the sparrow has found a home,
    and the swallow a nest for herself,
    where she may have her young-
    a place near your altar,
    O Lord Almighty, my King and my God.
    Blessed are those who dwell in your house;
    they are ever praising you.

    Blessed are those whose strength is in you,
    who have set their hearts on pilgrimage.
    As they pass through the Valley of Baca,
    they make it a place of springs;
    the autumn rains also cover it with pools.
    They go from strength to strength
    till each appears before God in Zion.

    Hear my prayer, O Lord God Almighty;
    listen to me O God of Jacob.
    Look upon our shield, O God;
    look with favor on your anointed one.

    Better is one day in your courts
    than a thousand elsewhere;
    I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house
    of my God
    than dwell in the tents of the wicked.
    For the Lord God is a sun and shield;
    the Lord bestows favor and honor;
    no good thing does he withhold
    from those whose walk is blameless.

    O Lord Almighty,
    blessed is the man who trusts in you."

    Psalm 84.
